Steve Fleming
A native of Bear Creek, Alabama, Steve Fleming was the first member of his family to attend college. After graduating from Phillips High School in 1979, Steve enrolled at Auburn University, where he earned a degree in Finance from the College of Business in 1983.
Upon graduation, Steve launched his successful 35-year career in mortgage banking that included key positions at Jefferson Federal, First Commercial Bank, National Bank of Commerce, Royal Bank of Canada, and Synovus Mortgage. At National Bank of Commerce, Steve founded the bank’s mortgage department, which consistently ranked as a top-five mortgage company in the Birmingham area.
After retiring from the banking industry, Steve began a second career as a real estate investor and developer. He owns commercial properties in and around Auburn. His first new-construction project, The Whatley, is a beautiful mixed-use building overlooking Auburn’s iconic Samford Hall.
While a student at AU, Steve was a member of the Auburn University Marching Band for five football seasons. He has attended every Auburn home football game since the middle of the 1976 football season: 310 consecutive home games entering the 2022 football season. Steve currently serves on the College of Liberal Arts dean’s advisory council and is a member of both the 1856 Society and George Petrie Society. He is a past president of the Auburn Alumni Band.
Since 2018, Steve has called Auburn home.
